Poetry By Cheyenne
There's a lot of poetry on here. Happy, sad, funny, horrible, and terrifying.
But it's all poetry, and it's all mine
And I'd love to share it with you
So give it a read!

“Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia.”
― E.L. Doctorow

What Else Could I Ever Ask For?

I don't really know what day it is
the month or season
or phase of the moon

But I do know that my life is filled with wonderful people
kind smiles, loving words, and warm hugs
funny gifts, adorable animals, and stories

Really, what else could I ever ask for?

Fade Away

Why do you only exist
in that liminal space between memory and reality?

A fragmented shade of what you once were,
torn from the time that was
and thrown into the here and now,
yet still fumbling to exist.

Your mind strains between the two
just as I catch a glimpse of that familiar glint in your eye.

Just as I feel hope again
that this time you'll stay beside me
you fade away.

Onlookers

Through joyful days
till bitter end,
they swore to stay as one.

So even now
after millennia have passed,
they sit together on that cloud
and watch as the days creep by,
the people who scurry like ants
upon the earth below,
and the stars in the sky
who flicker and fall.

Averting Disaster

Many things can avert disaster.

A broken detonator,
dead batteries,
the big red button,
a sword,
a loving word,
fresh batteries,
a shield,
a helping hand.

You never know what calamity might be waiting.

All you can do is think about your actions
and what they might mean for the people around you.
Measure the good and bad.
Most of all
have compassion and love in your hearts.
Let them be the voices that guide you
as you choose which path to walk down.

Single

I don't understand
why it's so bad to be single.
I have tons of friendships and love floating around
without all the romantic entanglements,
and the drama that inevitably comes from them.
Why do I need to have someone perpetually glued
to my hip or hand?

Everyone treats it as a requirement for a happy life,
like I as a person
am not whole,
until I share someone's name and bed.

Why is it a problem,
that I can spend my time how I please
without having to feed someone else,
or work around their schedule?

Single-dom is a perfectly acceptable state of being.
It shouldn't be seen as sad or lonely,
because I can order a pizza,
and then eat every single piece without having to share.
That, in my opinion,
is pretty damn close
to pure happiness.

Cheese

Melty deliciousness, found in so
many flavors and forms. I will
never tire of tasting you.
I can't pick favorites.
Don't try to make me.
On earth, or in
space, I'll find
yummy
cheese.

Spin Toward Peace (A Blitz Poem)

5/20/2018

Watch the world
Watch it spin
Spin through space
Spin the days
Days flying by
Days creeping past
Past your fading hair dye
Past your uneven fingernails
Fingernails without paint
Fingernails hiding yesterday's filth
Filth you have clawed out
Filth from the insults
Insults thrown your way
Insults seeping into the air you breathe
Breathe hot ash
Breathe stones and sticks
Sticks that bruise
Sticks constantly breaking
Breaking in two
Breaking you
You can only dodge so many
You have to fall sometime
Sometime there will be collateral damage
Sometime soon
Soon you will move to slowly
Soon you will meet the ground
Ground will not cushion you
Ground that only cares to spin
Spin as the earth moves on
Spin without a thought for you
You can fall
You can whimper
Whimper at the pain
Whimper for mercy
Mercy to stop the sticks and stones
Mercy in any form
Form a shield
Form then appears
Appears so unexpected
Appears a friend
Friend with a hand outstretched
Friend lifting you off the dirt
Dirt steady beneath you
Dirt that watches the days pass
Pass from humiliation
Pass into peace
Peace the world is still spinning
Peace a warm embrace
Spinning
Embrace

An Old Friend

4/5/2018

I want to fall into the pages of a book,
let the scent of leatherbound paper surround me,
like the warm embrace of an age-old friend.

I want to be carried away on the words of a master storyteller,
shown worlds without end,
and watch as lives are played out before my eyes.

I want to be enveloped in these new worlds,
and taken far away,
where the troubles of my everyday are nothing but a blip
on the outskirts of my subconscious.

I want to be with you again.
my old friend.

Few things feel better

or family member.

Loving Words

It's more comforting than I can express,
that when I want to hide myself away,
and avoid the brightly lit rooms and faces around me,
no matter how hard I try,
there are always a s few smiles lingering just outside my door,
and hands reaching for mine,
carrying loving words.
With all of the comforting embraces around me,
I couldn't be truly alone if I wanted to.
