Poetry By Cheyenne
There's a lot of poetry on here. Happy, sad, funny, horrible, and terrifying.
But it's all poetry, and it's all mine
And I'd love to share it with you
So give it a read!

“Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia.”
― E.L. Doctorow

Blockhead (A Cyrch A Chwta)

"Go, take the sword!" They all said.
"It'll kill anything dead!"
Well, now it's stuck me instead.

Will you just be done, behead
the hero, lowly inbred?

Your lair is now my deathbed,
so what are you waiting for?

Am I boring you, blockhead?

When This Moment Is Through

"There's a hum in the air
or perhaps a ringing-
the thump, thump, thump of time-
each second like a heavy weight,
dripping,
carving its way into space."

-Ten: Part 1, by Sin Ribbon

We all know there's something coming.
The tone of the air has changed
from its light flickering
to a deathly silence.
A moment holding in its final breath
before fading away.

But none of us know what's approaching.
Whether it's a new, albeit normal day
or a reckoning.
The day a long-suffering god will finally be through with us
or the day our fate finally catches up.

For better or worse,
there's no way of knowing the truth
until the moment comes.
Not until the present tears asunder
and the future comes rushing in
in all it's potentially apocalyptic glory.

We'll just have to wait and see
what this new moment brings.

The quote at the beginning is from one of my latest favorite books, "Ten: Part 1" by Sin Ribbon. It's an awesome urban fantasy with darker elements, so please check it out!

Yesterday

If you ever visit the land of Yesterday
don't forget to walk down Memory Lane,
I hear the chocolate shop there's nice.
Bittersweet Eats.
Try the truffles.

Oh, and stop by your storage container.
The one marked 'Forgotten'.
Add another padlock.
Trust me, you don't wanna know what's in there.
It's better left in Yesterday.

In the end,
just make sure you're the one that comes back,
and not your formal self.
They were an asshole.

Scribbling On

The tap's run dry again tonight. But
I force some words out anyway.
Because even though they're a
crispy batch that's a breath
from decaying, they
still count. And I'm
committed.
Scribbling
on.

The Lift

Step right up,
it's time to make a choice!

Yes, I know you've made plenty of those
with a menagerie of significances.

You've lived your life a certain way,
and I'm sure you had your reasons,
but those don't matter anymore.

This is the ultimately decisive one,
and it will steer your fate from here on out,
whether that be towards redemption
or an eternal torment of your mind's own making.

For your sake
I hope your actions don't drop you in the basement,
and that you're kind to your guide here.

Because if you glimpse the face behind the child's eye
and earn her ire,
then you might earn yourself
a lifetime reservation.

And you wouldn't want your ride on the lift
and your possible redemption
to be a waste,
would you?

Speak

Do not fear.
Speak aloud
your thoughts, dear.

Or else the
world cannot
hear or learn.

From hearts so
different
from their own.

Wait a Moment

Wait a moment
for the droplet to fall,
for the bird to sing,
for the person to smile.

A little nurtured moment
here and there,
might lead to new growth.

A hint of green
reaching out from parched, cracked earth.
Land deserted and abandoned
long ago, for brilliant movie screens.

The Little Droplet

The little droplet played its favorite game with the sun,
hopping and skipping across the pool's surface,
seeing what dazzling refractions it could cause with its friend's rays.

Its burbling laugh echoed
and the elder droplets sighed.

"How could something so tiny be so loud?"
"Doesn't it know that we are resting?"
"We can't have a moment of stillness with that upstart around."

They grumbled as they always did,
quietly to each other under the babbling.
But they never chastised the little droplet
or made it quiet down.
Because its happiness sent ripples through the pool
and they were always warmed by it,
even if they would never admit it.
